Deepavali, the Hindu festival of lights, falls on Sunday 8 November 2026 and is a public holiday in Sri Lanka. Homes and kovils glow with clay oil lamps, doorsteps are decorated with colourful kolam, and families share sweets and new clothes. See it at the kovils of Colombo's Wellawatte, Kotahena and Pettah, or travel north to Jaffna and the Nallur Kandaswamy kovil.
